Hawaii December 2005

We've been to quite a few places, but until now, the 50th US state was not one of them. It was always on the "Someday" list until Steve signed up for the National AIDS Marathon training program.

A shorts-clad Santa welcomed us to Honolulu

Yet another view of the Claus's

"Merry Christmas", Hawaii style

We spent the afternoon with some friends and saw this temple on the north side of O'ahu

Here's Steve at mile 11. He went on to finish in 6:19, in 16,105th place of over 28,000 runners.

The day after the Marathon, we went scuba diving

Steve showing John a mollusk

Seeing a turtle while diving is supposed to be good luck

The next day we went to the Big Island to see Kiluea

Look carefully and you can see the steam where the lava runs into the sea

The USS Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor was very moving.

We stayed one night at the Royal Hawaiian - "The Pink Hotel"

Steve was still a little sore from the marathon, but a hike up Diamondhead was worth it for this view
